What will I learn in this workshop

You will learn the basics of goldsmithing, this includes:

– How to pierce ( saw ) through a strip of silver
– How to form a ring using pliers
– You will watch it being soldered whilst being explained the process by your teacher
– How to file the ring using different size hand files
– How to texture the ring using a planishing hammer choosing from 3 finishes; flat, pebble or bark
– You will watch it being polished on a polishing motor to your chosen finish – matte or shiny!

Our Forge a Silver Ring workshops have been awarded the Most Reviewed Experience in Ireland by Airbnb! We were also shortlisted as a finalist for 2020 Hen & Stag Supplier of the Year by Wedding Online. Due to our excellent reputation our workshops tend to book up, we recommend booking ahead to avoid any disappointment!

Can I come and watch my partner/friend/family member make the ring but not take part?

We can’t guarantee that there will be space for you, as classes get very booked up, however if there is space you can pay an accompanying fee of €25 to watch the class, but not make a ring.

    Duration of Workshop

The Workshop lasts approximately 2 hours and costs 85 euros per person.

Most of the taster classes take place in the evenings from 6:30-8:30pm and on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Please see below the booking area at the bottom of the page for our current availability

If you are a group of 6 or above please let us know so we can accommodate your group.

Can one of our group do the forge a ring class and one of us do the charm class?

Unfortunately not, as they are two very different procedures, they are really two separate classes that need 2 separate teachers.

Should you have any further questions, please do pop us a message to enquiries@silverworks.ie

    Why Silver Works

Unlike traditional institutions, our priority is to help you learn & develop a new skill, not profit.

This is why we offer only 6 places within our bespoke courses, so you get the most out of each class!

You will be taught by highly experienced goldsmiths, working within the industry who has an abundance of Jewellery design experience.

    What's included

We provide Tea & coffee and some chocolate
All tools and equipment, drills & aprons are provided for the duration of the course.

All the silver needed to make your ring.

I don’t like the thickness of the band, can I make my ring thinner or thicker?

We offer a standard 4mm size band in the classes- when you file it down you can loose some width, but if you want it thinner than that, email us and we will get hold of a strip that is 3mm if we know in advance. The cost of this is an extra €10 for the admin fee. If you would like a wider band of 5mm it costs an extra €12.50 and a larger size still of 6mm costs an extra €15.

I have a beautiful stone I would like to set it in the ring, can I?

Unfortunately gem setting is quite hard and not something that we can cover in our 2 hour classes. However, if you can either send us a photo by email or bring it along with you, we can get you a quote. We have some fabulous setters who can almost definitely do this for you. It takes around 4 weeks to get this set for you.

Can you get me a stone and set it for me?

Yes! Simply send us an email with the stone and dimensions you would like and we can get you a quote. Leave your ring with us after the workshop and we will get it done for you. Stone setting normally takes 4 weeks on top of finding the stone for you.

    Personalised Engraving & Gold Plating

We now offer engraving on the ring you make! It is a one week turnaround time. Make it even more special by adding initials or a date. The cost of this is €30 if collected from our city centre shop.

You will be contacted by text when it is ready for collection. Alternatively, if you need it shipped, it would either be €10 (within Ireland) to €15 (outside of Ireland) depending on where you live. Please note that it is at Owner’s Own Risk for items to be posted. We cannot accept responsibility for lost items once we leave them in our courier’s hands. We do all we can to but once they are gone to post, there is nothing further we can do.

We can also offer a gold plating service, its €30 for a 14-21 day service turnaround. Simply let your teacher know and they will organise this for you.

Absolutely not! This is a fun, interactive workshop designed for anyone to take part in! We teach you from scratch.

Yes absolutely, this class can be attended by people as young as 10. However, anyone under the age of 16 does need to be accompanied by an adult.  We use hand tools such as hammers and files that could potentially hurt them so we need you there to watch over and help them.

This whole experience was so awesome to have been able to leave with something you can cherish from a great learning opportunity. I didn’t know what was going to be involved with this process but the night was overall a fun, stimulating experience. My ring came out prettier than I could have imagined. I would do this again!”

    Greg, June 2023

This was definitely a highlight for my wife’s and my trip to Ireland. Jill was a wonderful teacher, and the process of forging one’s own silver ring was fun and very satisfying. Now we have a more interesting keepsake of the trip than a T-shirt or coffee mug just cannot compete with.”
